Prophetic Musings

Thoughts from a small-town, old-fashioned guy living in the suburbs.

September 2007 - Posts

As was evidenced previously with the Dramatic Chipmunk video, I am easily amused. This amusement continues with this commercial.

Too funny.

More serious posts are coming soon. I'm finally caught up with school after being sick for a couple weeks, so I've actually got some extra time I can use for whatever I want. I've got a couple good article ideas I want to get out there.

We all see road signs, most of us every day. I noticed something when we went to Colorado that struck me as odd.

deercrossing

Pretty simple sign. It means deer might be crossing the road, right? We saw this one quite a bit.

elkcrossing

Saw this one more as we got into Colorado. Elk were pretty common where we were at, as evidenced by this picture.

Now, these signs are a little less common, though I grew up with them.

cattlecrossing

Cattle crossing. We had one of these on either side of our house growing up. Dad used to move cattle from one side of the road to the other.

farmercrossing

Tractor crossing signs aren't as common in Kansas. If you don't know there is a tractor around when you live in a farm community, you're probably dense enough the sign wouldn't help anyway.

horseandridercrossing

In Estes Park the equestrian crossing signs were everywhere. A lot of people riding horses around the area. Inside RMNP they had signs where the rider had the Park Ranger hat on, but I couldn't find one of those.

All of this leads me to my final sign. I don't understand this one.

bikecrossing

All the other signs made sense to me, but this one stands out. Why? Look at the other signs. The deer, elk, and cattle signs are all animals. They show quite simply what might be coming across the road. The tractor and equestrian signs show things that people are riding. So, what is it about the bicycle sign that messes me up?

THERE IS NOBODY RIDING THE STUPID BIKE!

I'm anticipating rounding a corner only to see bicycles careening down the side of the mountain, riderless and free. Or else a herd of free-range mountain bikes will come wheeling across the road in front of me. Why doesn't the bicycle sign have a rider on it? It's not consistent with the others.

Then again, I could just be a...

Watch out for this park ranger. He's a tough guy. You know the kind, don't you? The one who wears the mirrored sunglasses with the mirror on the inside?

Watch out for this little heartbreaker too.

Hands down, the best pizza I've had in a long time was here...

...if you could avoid the riff-raff hanging out in front of the place.

Best burgers we've had in a while were here...

One of the most beautiful places in the world, Bear Lake.

The last time I was up on this rock was in 1992 with my brother. I'll see if I can get ahold of that picture and put it up here.

And I haven't ridden this slide since before then.

He liked it a little bit. Rode the thing five times.

She decided to create this picture of our growing family.

AshleesPicture

See how Collette and I are each holding a baby? We've only got one on the way, at least so far as we know. Maybe Ashlee knows something we don't?

Ever since we got back from Colorado two weeks ago, I've been fighting off sickness. Well, the sickness finally won on Friday night. We went to the emergency room where I spent most of the day on Saturday. Turns out I have an upper respiratory infection and I was on steroids and breathing treatments all day in the hospital.

I finally get to go home about 4 PM Saturday afternoon. We get home, I lay down and Collette goes back to town to pick up my prescriptions about 6 PM. She gets home a little later and we have the following conversation.

Her: I couldn't get your medicine.
Me: Why not?
Her: Because the drop-off window was closed. We'll have to go back tomorrow and get it. Oh, and we'll need to pick up one more thing.
Me: What's that?
Her: Prenatal vitamins.

She then proceeds to drop this on my desk.

So, in about eight more months, we'll be adding one to the family.

Never a dull moment around here.

A panda walks into a restaurant. He orders his meal and eats it. He then gets up, draws a gun, and shoots it in the air. Then he turns to leave. The waiter asks what he is doing.

The panda looks at him and says, “I am a panda. Look it up in the dictionary.” The panda gives the waiter a dictionary and leaves.

The waiter opens the dictionary and reads: “Panda – a large black and white Asian mammal. Eats, shoots and leaves.”

Everyone get it?

It's been awhile since I've written on here. A quick update.

We've been on vacation in Colorado this week, and we're on our way back now. I'll have a couple things up this week, including a recap of the astounding pounding that K-State might take tonight.
