Prophetic Musings

Thoughts from a small-town, old-fashioned guy living in the suburbs.

Here I Am Send Me

Here's another in my (terribly inconsistent) Music and Meaning posts. And guess what? More Delirious?! (The band's name is Delirious?, complete with question mark. See, I'm grammatically correct. Wouldn't Bostwick be proud?)

As always, lyrics first, then my thoughts.

Show me a vision like Isaiah saw,
Where the angel touched his lips and he sinned no more.
Let me hear your voice saying “Who shall I send?”
I’ll say send me Lord, I’ll follow you to the end.

Show me a vision like Ezekiel saw,
An army of light from a valley of bones.
Breathe life into these lungs of mine,
So I can scream and shout of your love divine.

Search light, burns bright, floods my eyes,
Invade me, serenade me, I’m giving back my life.

Here I am send me, Here I am send me,
There’s nothing in my hands,
But here I am send me.

I’m in Jacobs dream seeing heavens gate,
Let me climb all night on my ladder of faith.
Wrestle with the angel till my body is weak,
Dislocate my bones for it’s you that I seek.

Show me the light Paul apostle saw,
When he fell to the dust and he could see no more,
Open my eyes, open my eyes,
Open my eyes, open my eyes.

I’m frightened what you’ll find,
When you open up my heart, I’m walking in the light,
Cos it’s light that changes the atmosphere,
So touch these lips that criticise,
And put a song in my mouth that opens our eyes.

Ah, that's great stuff. It's a driving rock song too, and it's pretty cool. Read into the lyrics though and you'll find something interesting. Imagine what Isaiah must have seen to make him sin no more. What must Paul have seen which changed his life so completely? Ezekiel saw an army rise from a valley of bones. These incredible glimpses of God and His power changed lives. What would happen to us if we were able to catch a similar glimpse of God? Would we make immediate changes to our lives? Would we change course so completely that everyone around would notice? I would like to think so.

I often joke with people that the only way I'll do some task is if God rolls back the eastern sky and tells me to do it. What I think I fail to take into account is what I'll do if He does decide to do that. What happens then? Am I willing to stand there and say "HERE I AM, SEND ME!" I'm not so sure sometimes. I'm so hooked into what I'm doing now. However, if God wants me to do something, I have to try and be willing to do it. Actually, I just have to be willing to do it. As a great philosopher said, "Do or do not, there is no try."
